Suman Das Adhikary was born and raised in Haldia, a port city in West Bengal, India, known for its petrochemical and industrial landscape. Growing up in this environment sparked his early interest in chemical science and its impact on society. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Vidyasagar University in 2018 before moving to Mumbai to pursue his master’s degree at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay under the guidance of Prof. I. N. N. Namboothiri, where he worked on the synthesis of polycyclic molecular frameworks through annulation strategies.
In 2021, Suman moved to the United States to begin his doctoral studies at The University of Texas at Arlington under the supervision of Prof. Junha Jeon. His Ph.D. research focused on developing catalytic strategies for C–H and C–C silylation through directing group design, mechanistic understanding, and synthetic innovation in organosilicon chemistry.
Currently, Suman is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Huang Group at Indiana University Bloomington, where his research interests lie at the interface of organic synthesis and polymer chemistry, with current efforts focused on stereoselective polymerization and post-polymerization modification strategies.
Outside the laboratory, he enjoys playing cricket, cooking, listening to audio stories, and exploring Bengali literature. He often views cooking through the lens of organic chemistry, as both involve creativity through the breaking and making of bonds.
